Alexei Yashin Special Guest @ Clinic ![]() Former Islander Alexei Yashin On June 27 2007 KasatonovHockey had a very special guest on the ice! Alexei Yashin joined Alexei Kasatonov and his staff on the ice during the clinic at the Staten Island Skating Pavilion. Yashin showed the kids how to protect the puck, stickhandle, pass, shoot, and deke. During the demonstration Alexei Yashin ripped a hard wrist shot that went over the net and broke the glass! The kids were all ecstatic and amazed. Some kids have never been on the ice with a NHL player who currently plays in the League, so this was a huge treat for them and for all the kids who attended. Yashin will be back again at a later date, so check out the pictures and dont miss the next time we have a special guest! |

![]() Kasatonov, Makarov, Larionov, Krutov, Fetisov From 1979 to 1989 the Soviet Unions greatest hockey weapon was a group of 5 players.
They played with each other 11 months out of the year, practicing twice a day on the ice and even more times off the ice. They lived together, along with the rest of the team
at a sports "base" as it is called in russian. They had one thing on their minds, being the best hockey team in the world. |

And many say that they were. They won numerous canada cups, olympics, world championships, and exhibition games with the top teams in the world. But at the Soviet squads changed through the years, their group was the foundation of the team. When they stepped onto the ice for their shifts they would create plays that were astonishing to watch. Teams were left amazed after playing them. They adopted the name The Green Unit, because when they practiced only they wore green jerseys. They dominated the hockey world in the 1980s.
